Decorating Insights – Making Your Home Your Own

Make your home your own, yet beautiful.  Use pieces that mean something to you when creating your dream home.  For example, use items from your travels; family heirlooms inherited from your grandparents or parents—milk glass or blue & white collections for instance; antiques; or your children’s art or pictures to personalize spaces.  Don’t be afraid to incorporate items you love into your rooms.

  • Shake off the dust from some favorite things you have tucked away and show off things that are truly meaningful to you.  It’s exciting to enter a room and know that it is all about you and not just some “decorated space” that does not represent who you are.
  • Strive for balance; don’t make the spaces feel overdone or excessive. Too much of a good thing is just too much.  Clear out the room and totally recreate the space for a “new look and feel” with a mix of old and new things.  Or, simply add a piece or a few items into an existing design to curate something new and exciting.
  • Mix and match things a bit. You can mix an art piece, modern or traditional, or a mix of frames with varying artwork or photos.
  • The use of symmetry is good; but things don’t have to be too perfect. Include something that’s a little unexpected into your design.  These can stir up nice conservation points and really add that special needed touch.
  • Feel good to be “at home” in your own home with things you love.
  • Make spaces beautifully you!
